What it does:

❌ FAILS
7. WHOOP
What it does:
Tracks strain, recovery, and sleep via a subscription-based wearable.
Why it failed in real life:
Unreliable without signal, non-transferable annual membership, and overly generous sleep scoring made it incompatible with serious measurement—especially during travel and field testing. Did not work while I was in the middle of Tanzania, without a signal for 3 weeks. Stop synchronizing all data after 3 days.
Also, as a woman who likes to change my style, having the same bracelet over and over does not fit my life: Red Carpet event? Cannot wear. Going out to a meeting wearing a sleeveless dress? Looks “weird” and “mismatched”, etc….
I tried to give it to my dad after a 3-mont test. I learned that my prepaid year membership was NOT transferable. This qualifies as a scam in my books.
Lesson:
If data can’t be trusted everywhere, it can’t be trusted anywhere.
8. CGM (Stelo / Dexcom)
What it does:
Estimates interstitial glucose levels continuously to infer blood sugar trends.
Why it failed for me:
Repeated discrepancies versus finger-prick testing created misleading narratives. Data noise without context is worse than no data at all.
Ex : reading on Stelo: 183, reading on the finger-prick device, 139.
Fasted glucose with a regular blood test: 76. Every morning for 15 days with the Stelo? 110 ! That’s pre-diabetic!
Lesson:
Measurement precision matters more than measurement frequency.
